What to Expect
Our DOT physicals are conducted by a licensed nurse practitioner or physician assistant registered with the FMCSA National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. The exam confirms whether you are healthy enough to perform the demanding profession of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver and includes:
Blood Pressure & Pulse Rate Your provider will check your blood pressure and pulse to measure systolic and diastolic pressure levels and test for irregular heart rate.
Hearing Drivers must be able to hear a forced whisper at a distance of 5 feet with or without a hearing aid, equivalent to a hearing loss of less than 40 decibels in the better ear.
Vision Drivers must have a minimum acuity of 20/40 in each eye with or without corrective lenses, and at least 70° of peripheral vision in each eye along the horizontal meridian.
Urinalysis A urine test screens for underlying medical conditions such as diabetes.
Musculoskeletal Function An evaluation of your physical strength and range of motion to ensure you can safely operate a commercial vehicle.
